Enhanced safety features include a grip safety, USA trigger safety, and a firing pin block (drop safety). The grip safety requires gripping of the pistol before the trigger mechanism moves into an activated position. The unique XD design also prevents the slide from unlocking until the grip safety is depressed. The muzzle protector fixed guide rod system blocks slide movement and protects the muzzle from damage in case the pistol is dropped on the muzzle. The Ultra Safety Assurance (USA) trigger safety blocks the firing pin /striker
until the trigger is fully depressed. A loaded chamber indicator and cocked firing pin status indicator all add to the XD's unrivaled safety features.

The XD's frame is made from a proprietary polymer material that has produced a pistol that is extremely durable, reliable and lighter than popular competitive models. The frame is checkered in front and rear
for a more positive grip, even with wet or sweaty hands. The XD also has a slide release, ambidextrous magazine release buttons and a quick turn disassembly lever, allowing for amazingly fast and simple field-
stripping.
